Collegium

Collegium students live on the same floor with classmates in two of their academic classes. They learn collaboratively, sharing questions about study methods and challenging each other’s intellectual assumptions and abilities. This ready-made community provides support, friendship, and intellectual companionship for each student, thus enhancing his or her experience at Loyola University Maryland.

A Sense of Belonging
The Collegium program, designed to build a social and academic community that encourages students to feel “at home” soon after arriving at the University, admits 96 first-year students who are housed in proximity to each other in Campion Tower or in traditional residence halls on the east side of campus. Students will be co-enrolled in two of the five academic courses they take in their first semester, allowing them to share their intellectual odyssey both in the classroom and in the residence hall. In addition, Collegium members are also enrolled in a First-Year Experience course (FE 100). The goal of Collegium is to build a social and academic community. First-year students participating in the program also have the opportunity to partner with their faculty members and residential staff to organize social and cultural activities.

“I believe that Collegium is an excellent way to meet new people....It gives you a chance to go through two of the same exact classes as a number of people on your floor, which gives you the benefit of studying and adjusting alongside people that live right next door!”

“College can be quite an adjustment and living with the people you take some of your classes with helps so much. You can have study groups and everyone from your class is right down the hall if you have problems with homework.”
