Post-graduate Certificate/Masters Plus: LCPC course option
Program Overview

For practitioners who want to practice independently in the counseling field,  but who lack the time and resources to pursue a doctoral-level degree, the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) offers an innovative option.  Loyola's post-graduate options include the 30-credit Certificate of Advanced Study and the Master's Plus: LCPC course option.  These programs provide students who possess a master's degree with the specific course requirements they need to become licensed professional counselors and independent service providers in the state of Maryland.  By following the guidelines for licensure established by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, the programs broaden the career options and scope of practice for professional counselors.  Students work with faculty to tailor a program of study that takes into account their previous course work and meets state licensure preconditions.  At Loyola, courses may be selected from the graduate curriculum in the departments of Psychology,  Pastoral Counseling, and School Counseling, each of which covers all content areas required by the Maryland State Board for licensure.

Admission and enrollment is open to individuals who have completed a master's degree in a qualifying program of study from any accredited institution.  To meet pre-exam licensure requirements, content area coursework must be pursued in 14 prescribed core areas.  Advising and course approval are provided by department faculty and the directors of master's education and field education.
