to Tania Ziegler  ’09, awarded a Fulbright Scholarship

 to study economics in Beijing during 2009-10. She will use the prestigious scholarship to research global and domestic implications of Chinese international investment outside China’s borders, also known as outward direct investment.

to  Jomy Varghese-- (class of 2010)  named a Goldwater Scholar!
Funded by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation, the Goldwater Scholars program is designed to foster and encourage outstanding undergraduate students in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. The scholarships cover the costs of tuition, fees, books and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year for the winners’ junior and/or senior years in college. Varghese is one of 278 Goldwater Scholars chosen from a field of 1,035 applicants. Another Honors student, Paul La Plante, ’11, a physics and Spanish major was given an honorable mention.

for being named the 2009 Nachbahr Award winner
This annual award recognizes outstanding achievement in scholarship or creative work by a faculty member in the humanities. It is named in honor of Bernard Nachbahr, a long-time and much beloved philosophy professor at Loyola and the first Director of the Center. His career exemplified a deep commitment to the civilizing power of the humanities. The awardee will deliver a public lecture during the weekend of Honors Convocation on the general theme of "The Life of the Mind"
