Faculty Publication Costs

SUMMARY

This program supports faculty publications by reimbursing faculty authors for certain costs of the publication of a book or article or other form of "publication" (e.g., exhibits, performances), not covered by the publisher, up to a limit of $2000 per publication. It does not repay faculty members for research or other expenses leading up to the publication nor does it pay for any form of publicity for the publication. The program does pay for:

a. the cost of permissions not paid for by the press or the journal publishing the faculty member's work;

b. special costs of any kind, such as illustrations, reprint fees, editing, indexing, etc. for either an article or a book;

c. other types of equivalent expenses involved in the "publication" of creative works in other media (music, drama, visual arts [e.g. framing], electronic arts, etc.).

ELIGIBILITY

1. Any faculty member in the humanities, regardless of status.

STANDARDS FOR PROPOSALS

2. Any  reasonable expense necessary for the publication of a book, article, or work in another medium is eligible if the cost is not one covered by the publisher. Faculty members who are uncertain whether their expenses qualify for reimbursement under this program should contact the Director.

PROCEDURES

3. Requests for reimbursement should specify the amount and nature of the costs involved and support their requests with appropriate documents (e.g., publisher's invoices, bills for preparation costs, publisher's invoices for the cost of books, etc.). The Director will authorize the reimbursement and will announce it at the next meeting of the Steering Committee.

DEADLINE

4. SUBMISSION OF REQUESTS CAN BE MADE AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.

Revised: October 2006.
