    Academic Symposium

The Jesuit ideal calling students to become "men and women for others" requires an ongoing examination of what it means to blend the values of faith and justice into one's personal and professional life. As part of his Inaugural celebration, Fr. Linnane asked the College to organize an academic symposium addressing this issue. The symposium, titled "Faith, Justice and the Intellectual Life: Jesuit Education at Loyola College," took place on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and included panelists Fred Derrick, Economics, Elissa Derrickson, Biology, June Ellis, English, the Rev. Kevin Gillespie, S.J., Pastoral Counseling and Claire Mathews McGinnis, Theology.

Fr. Gillespie makes his statement to the Symposium audience, as well as to a student panel comprising Ryan Camp '08, Director of Academic Affairs for the Student Government Association, Gregory Santos '06, President of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society, and Megan Dunning '07, Co-Chair of the Women Organizing Activism Justice Club.

Dr. Mathews McGinnis responds to questions posed by Gregory Santos.
