Strategies for Success is a one-day workshop for first year students with disabilities who want to get a head start on their Loyola experience. Participants move in on Wednesday and attend a casual welcome reception (family members are invited, too) that evening. On Thursday, Strategy for Success attendees participate in a day of fun and informative activities designed to introduce them to the services, resources, and supports that will assist them during their time at Loyola. Information will also be provided on time-management techniques; study skills; requesting accommodations; and taking care of oneself while in college. Participates also learn about the importance of developing self-advocacy skills, which will help them navigate through their college journey.
Some topics we will cover during the pre-fall program are…
- How to request accommodations
- What resources are there for extra help (academic and beyond)
- Where can you seek help with advising and registering for classes
- Techniques to master time management and organization
