B5. Subscription Pattern Tips

Predictive Component Pattern

These tips will address choosing an already created Publication Pattern Model for various types of situations. If a situation is listed below without an example, please let me know if you come across a title that would fit that situation.

Publication pattern or publication pattern model refers to the generic pattern

Subscription pattern refers to the individual title pattern based on the generic pattern

Choosing a Publication Pattern Model from the drop down list:
Every combination of numbering and chronology requires a separate pattern model. Spelling variations (vol. vs. v.) or language variations (v. vs. Bd.) also require separate pattern models.
Sometimes you must try several patterns to find one which works well with the title in hand.
Sometimes a pattern will work well but needs to be closed on a regular basis and a new one started in order to keep volumes and dates aligned.

Examples:

Straight forward frequency, one volume per year, no combined nor omitted issues as part of the normal frequency

Health Psychology (bimonthly)

Monthly with 10 issues, one volume per year, combined Jan./Feb. and June/July issues

CA Magazine (monthly with 10 issues)

Quarterly, with single month designation

Journal of Economic Literature

5 issues per year, with single month designation

American Economic Review

Quarterly, with multiple month designation that does not start with January

Maryland Nurse
