Vol. 3, No. 1 Fall 2005
Nancy Hanks, Head of Technical Services
On April 21, 2005, the Loyola/Notre Dame Library hosted its first annual Celebration of Faculty
Scholarship. A display of articles and books published in calendar year 2004 was featured with an
accompanying bibliography.

The Library is including journal articles, book chapters, books, edited books, poems, and conference
papers in its Celebration of Faculty Scholarship publication bibliographies. All items must be published,
either in print or online. Book reviews, abstracts of conference papers, unpublished conference
presentations, and letters to the editor are excluded.
During the summer of 2005, it was decided to change the coverage from calendar year to fiscal year
to match the Colleges' fiscal years and faculty reporting schedules. Due to this change, the Celebration
bibliography in the spring of 2006 will cover Jan. 2004-June 2005 with the display showcasing primarily
those items published in the first half of 2005.
The 2004, Jan.-June 2005, and July
2005-June 2006 bibliographies are posted on the Library's homepage.
Entries are added to the bibliographies when publication can be
confirmed or, for books, when the book is received in the Library.
The bibliographies are compiled from campus publications, information
on departmental and personal web pages, database searches, and information
reported by faculty to their chairs.
Corrections and additions are
welcome; author affiliation searches work well
in some databases
but not others and book chapters and conference proceedings are
particularly difficult for the Library to locate. Please note that
these lists are being compiled in advance of the schedule on which
faculty report scholarship to their chairs and are a "work in progress".
Due to the way publications may be dated, the Library has decided
to add a bracketed "true" year of publication to the citation; i.e.,
a book copyrighted as 2006 but actually published in spring 2005.
The Library will not compile bibliographies in this format for years prior to 2004. Instead,
the Library is working on an institutional repository (see The Bridge Vol. 2, No. 2 Spring 2005).
This will be a long-term data-entry project that will include both current and older citations.
Curriculum Vitae are extremely welcome! Please send them to nhanks@
loyola.edu.
