Finance Databases, CRSP and ValueLine, Now Available Online
Patty MacDonald, Head of Reference
The Library has added online subscriptions to two premier sources of information
on the stock market: the ValueLine Investment Survey and
CRSP (Center for Research in Security Prices).
ValueLine:
The ValueLine Investment Survey is a well-known product used by
most professional as well as many personal investors. In a one-page
format, ValueLine provides comprehensive stock reports, which include
financial data as well as timeliness, technical and safety rankings,
price forecasts and analysts' opinions on 1700 stocks. In addition,
ValueLine includes 90 industry reports as well as Selection and
Opinion reports, which provide stock market forecasts and statistics,
track model portfolios, and highlight attractive stocks.
Access ValueLine from the library's home page under
Databases by Title, on the accounting and business/finance subject pages or directly:

CRSP:
Last semester the library began a subscription to WRDS (Wharton Research Data Services) a gateway for
financial and economic information developed by the Wharton School of Business. Through WRDS, the library
provides access to COMPUSTAT, which includes company and industry data from Standard and Poor's. Now the
library has added the CRSP daily stock database to the WRDS platform.
The Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP) maintains comprehensive, historical security price,
return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stock markets. A research center at the University
of Chicago Graduate School of Business, CRSP developed unique issue identifiers so that securities may be
tracked across time, regardless of identifier changes to CUSIP, ticker, company name, SIC Code, and
exchange. Although CRSP maintains some historical data back to 1925, the daily stock information dates from 1962.
CRSP data can be read directly with the statistical program SAS. In addition, users can select among
many variables to query the database, build custom data tables and output the data in a variety of
formats, including Excel. Many leading business schools subscribe to WRDS, COMPUSTAT, and CRSP but
often with password limitations; the library has been able to provide access to these resources easily
through its Website for library and campus use and through its authentication system for off-campus users.
Access to CRSP is available through WRDS from the library's Website on the Database by Title page, on the
accounting and business/finance subject pages, or directly through
WRDS
