Vol. 1, No. 1 Fall 2003
By Jack Ray
Tamara
F. Smith (Tami, to her friends) joined the Library staff as Reference/Instruction
Librarian on July 16. Tami has just completed a two-year fellowship
in reference and instruction services at the University of Pittsburgh,
where she earned her masters in Library and Information Science
in 2002.
Coming to the Loyola/Notre Dame Library is for Tami
a return to her home territory: she grew up in Baltimore, graduated
from Roland Park Country School, and received her bachelors degree
in Modern Languages and Linguistics from the University of Maryland
Baltimore County. And libraries are clearly in Tami's blood: her
mother, Robernette J. Smith, is Head of Reference Services at
Coppin State College. Outside of work, Tami enjoys choral singing;
in 1996 she participated in a music festival in Israel with her
church choir.
Tami is happy to be returning to Baltimore to join
the Notre Dame/Loyola community: "As a Baltimore native,
it is nice to be home. Coming from a large research library, I
like the more intimate setting of the Loyola/Notre Dame Library.
I get to spend more time helping people, and I have fun teaching
students and faculty about our many wonderful resources. I also
get more opportunities to learn new skills, which helps me become
a better librarian. I look forward to getting to know members
of the Loyola College and College of Notre Dame communities, and
I encourage everyone to support this great library."
Since July, Tami has already made her presence
felt in a number of ways: among other things, she is responsible
for the technical production of this newsletter.
