The
Loyola/Notre Dame Library will host a celebration of its 30th
anniversary on Friday, November 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon.
Refreshments will be served. Special guest speaker will be Taylor
Branch, noted author of an authoritative history of Martin Luther
King Jr. and the civil rights movement in America. Mr. Branch
is currently writing the third volume of this history, and he
will speak about the challenges to American democracy in the modern
era. In addition, Dr. Dorothy Brown, President of the Library
Board of Trustees, will highlight the history of the library,
including the roles played by William J. Kirwan, who was the joint
library's first director, and Sr. M. Ian Stewart, SSND, the library's
director from 1974 to 2000.
