Building Project

John McGinty, Library Director

What has been obvious to any student or faculty wandering to the back of their campus is that there is a library construction project underway – it’s busy, sometimes noisy, but progress is being made every day.

Exterior EastWhile the library remains open for service – students and faculty continue to borrow books and check out videos – a major construction project has been going on. The expansion and renovation of the original building started this past October and will continue through until next June. The twenty month project has been broken down into five phases, with the completion of phases one and two occurring at the beginning of the Fall semester. When students return for the start of the next academic year, the new entrances and the main floor of the library will be finished and the new circulation, media and research desks, classrooms, seminar room, gallery, cyber café, information commons and new publications areas will be showcased.

Here is the complete current renovation completion schedule:

PHASE START FINISH
One (Sitework & Addition) October 16, 2006 September 28, 2007
Two (Renovate Main Level) November 14, 2006 June 20, 2007
Three (Renovate Lower Level) June 21, 2007 October 24, 2007

The library also maintains a construction blog which regularly updates progress and contains advisories on changes in services due to construction.
