What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is cheating. Here is a
more detailed definition:
Plagiarism is using someone else's words or ideas and
presenting them as your own.
Why plagiarize? In spite of ethical concerns
and consequences (failure/expulsion), why do students or others
plagiarize? Some reasons include:
- Incomplete
understanding of plagiarism.
- So
many papers, so little time (procrastination): students
don't allow sufficient time to carefully research and write
paper
- Lack
of confidence in writing skills: while the words of others
may sometimes seem much better than one's own, it is
important to remember that logical, clear, concise
writing is more important than sounding "scholarly".
