Correct Citation and the Avoidance of Plagiarism

What about my ideas?

  • The basis of most academic research papers is still your own ideas and analysis.

  • Formulate your thesis based on your primary texts and/or research and use secondary sources to support your ideas and review the literature on your topic (if necessary).

  • Be sure to make clear when you are referring to the ideas of others. Don't rely too heavily on secondary material or your paper will be a summary of the work of others rather than an original work based on your ideas.
