Looking over your syllabi for classes you realize that you have a lot of work to do this semester.
Maybe you have a presentation, a group project, and two or three research papers. Not only are you
pressed for time, but you don't even know where to begin! The library can help! We are offering a
series of research survival sessions which show you the best ways to search organize your
information, and save time, effort, and frustration. The sessions will include:
APA (or MLA) the Easy Way - RefWorks 2.0.
Learn to use RefWorks, a citation manager which will allow you to pull citations from a
database
and create a bibliography with a few clicks of the mouse. For maximum benefit, take this
training
early in your research schedule.

How to Stop Googling and Find Happiness with the Really Good Stuff
aka General and Subject-Specific Research Databases.
Come to this session to learn about research databases and search methods that, compared to the Internet,
will knock your socks off! You can also get help with your particular paper topic.
(If your professor is not bringing your class to the library for instruction, you might want to sign
up for one of these sessions.)

Understand plagiarism and learn procedures for paraphrasing, including effective reading and
note taking, and master proper citation formats.

MLA Database (English 200)
Learn to use the MLA Bibliography database to find literary criticism on a sample topic, and get acquainted
with library services such as catalog MIC requests and use of ILL. The session is
designed for English 200 students, but is potentially useful for anyone doing research in literature or
other subjects as well.
