General Tutorial Overview From our homepage (www.lndl.org), you can find:

• Books
• Media
• Articles in the library
• How to get help
• Other tools and information

In the tabbed box in the center, you can find:

• Journal articles and other resources on a specific topic (Seeker and Research Guides tabs)
• Books (Catalog and Seeker tabs)
• Journals by title (Journals tab)
• Course reserves (Reserves tab)
• Loyola University and Notre Dame of Maryland University digital collections, such as student dissertations and faculty publications (Digital Collections tab)

To research a specific topic, you have three choices:

• Use Seeker, our all-in-one database, which searches for journal articles, books, magazine, and newspaper articles from a wide variety of sources. OR…
• Choose a specific database by title through the Databases by Title A
• Z list on the Seeker tab. OR…
• Click on the Research Guides tab and choose the subject that best fits your topic. A guide will open that shows recommended databases for your subject area.

 To find books, newspapers, and movies:

• Click on the Catalog tab. (Note: we have a separate tutorial about how to use the catalog.)
• We share our catalog with four other schools: Hood College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Stevenson University, and Washington Adventist University. You can request items from these schools through the catalog, and they will usually be delivered the next business day. (We have a tutorial for this process, too.)
• Reminder: you won’t find journal articles through the catalog! For those, you need the databases.

To see if we have a specific journal, either electronically or in print:

• Go to the Journals tab and search for the journal by title. (Note: We have a tutorial about how to find journals at LNDL.)

To find materials that your professor has put on reserve:

• Click on the Reserves tab. OR…
• Click on My Accounts at the top of the screen and then go to either Moodle (through InsideLoyola) or Joule.

To create or log into your Interlibrary Loan account, also click “My Accounts” at the top of the screen and then select Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad).

The “Need Help?” section (located in the top left of the homepage) contains links to:

• Style guides, such as APA, MLA, and Chicago
• Library tutorials
• Other resources, such as an FAQ section

Other notable features on the homepage:

• Library hours for the current day
• Events in the library, including classes
• Library news
• Contact information for the Research Assistance Desk: Call, email, IM, or text us!
