Finding Articles - when you know exactly which article you want
Journals at LNDL are available online or in print. Some journals are available
in both formats, but the years that are available online may differ from what
we have in print.
• If you know the name of the journal, publication year, volume, and issue
for an article, you can try to access it electronically by going to the “Journals” tab
on the library homepage.
• Type the name of the journal (not the title of the article) in the search
box and click “Search.”

...you would type "Commonwealth & Comparative Politics" into the search box.
• If the journal is available, you will see a list of links to databases
where you can access the journal. Pay attention to the years next to the links
and click on a link that corresponds to the year you need.
• On the next page, select the appropriate year and volume or search the
journal for your article title.
• When a journal isn't available electronically, or not for the correct
year, the same journal list should show if the journal is available in print.
• If the journal title appears in the results list, make sure that you see LNDL listed.
Then look at the volumes available (under
"holdings information"). If the volume that you need is available, make
a note of the article citation and go to either the main level if your article
was published in the last year, or the third floor if the article is older. In
both locations, the journals are arranged alphabetically by title. Journals cannot
be checked out, but you can read them in the library, scan articles, or make a
copy. Scanning is free, and black and white copies are 15 cents per page. Color
copies are 50 cents per page.
• If the article is not available either electronically or in print, you
can request it through Interlibrary Loan. For help with that, see our Interlibrary
Loan tutorial, or ask at the Reference Desk.
