Director's Database | Professor Dave Binkley, New Graduate Program Director |
In case you are not aware, I took over directing the graduate program this past summer from Dr. Mike Hinchey, who had the opportunity to return home to Ireland, which also placed him much closer to his mother. As with any change in administration, I have signed a number of executive orders. You should start seeing the impact of these soon. An excellent example is greater predictability in course selection. Perhaps the most important is a new addition to our numbers. I am quite pleased to welcome Lewis Berman as our new Director of Operations. Lewis holds master's degrees in Computer Science from Loyola College and Composition from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Durham in the U.K. An experienced software engineer, Lewis has over 20 years of software engineering experience in a wide range of industries including insurance, education, defense, and health care. In his "spare" time, he enjoys playing the piano and writing music. | Lewis Berman, Director of Operations |
Lewis is joining us to work on strengthening elements of the masters program. This will include chats with current students, company visits, and alike. Lewis has talks prepared on automated GUI testing and other subjects. If you would like to chat with Lewis, have suggestions for the program, or have venues at which Lewis might speak, please let him know. His e-mail address appears on his Loyola web page, http://www.cs.loyola.edu/faculty/bios/berman.html.
We are updating the program to hopefully provide you with more predictable course offerings. While changes on paper are easy, it will take a semester or two to get the sequence in place. We have placed a handy tool on the department's web site to help predict when courses will be offered. Ahh, job security! Computer Science is still near the top of the degrees in demand. need some details? Check out this article. Afterwards, consider inviting your friends and neighbors to join our program! Speaking of jobs, did you know that you, as a student, are a member of the CS Students organization on Loyola's Blackboard site? This site, maintained by our department, lists local job opportunities and links to jobs websites. Simply go to https://my.loyola.edu/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp, log in, and choose CS Students on the Organizations tab.
