Two meetings, one past, one future.

First meeting - in March the graduate faculty gathered. This annual gathering is aimed at fostering communication between faculty members, both full-time and affiliate. This year, we spent considerable time updating the curriculum. Topics ranged from the core of the program to the focus on the web and network tracks as well as a possible new architect track.

Second meeting - on April 7 (Columbia) and 8 (Timonium), Loyola's Computer Science Department will host information sessions aimed at new and prospective students. Please do mark these dates on your friends' and colleagues' calendars. One of the topics to be covered is the revised degree requirements. Students accepted into the program before Fall of 2009 have the option of switching to the new requirements or continuing with the present requirements. Your advisor can help you consider the pros and cons of making the switch. If you don't recall who your advisor is, send e-mail to inquiry@cs.loyola.edu.

The revised requirements provide a more focused education with a higher degree of predictability. The required and elective courses, sample schedules, and when we expect courses to run can be found on the web at:

  • After logging into Web Advisor, select "search for sections," and then submit the query "Term: Summer", "subject: CS", and "Academic Level: Graduate".
  • Please note that the summer offerings are official, while the fall schedule is a rather preliminary draft. We expect the final version to be available by June.

As an example of the revised requirements, the catalogue description now includes the following suggested course sequences.

Finally, putting the "green" in "green and gray," registration no longer means driving to Loyola. Opening 4/15, registration for summer can be done online or by old-fashioned mail, but not in person. If you have questions about course selection, please get in touch with your advisor or send e-mail to inquiry@cs.loyola.edu.
