Advanced Technology Forum Tuesday, November 10, 7:00 PM RE-THINKING THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT DISPLAY Loyola University Maryland Timonium Graduate Center 2034 Greenspring Drive
Steve Fritz has a "lofty" goal: nothing less than redesigning the aircraft flight display. According to Fritz, aircraft cockpits have displayed critical flight information in essentially the same form since the 1920's. His company, Emerald Sky Technologies, has devised an entirely new flight display based on contemporary principles of human factors and human machine interaction. Emerald, based in Columbia, Maryland, is working with NASA and several partners to continuously improve this display, incorporating field of view synthetic vision and integrating it with H-mode pilot control. In H mode, the pilot oversees autopilot control and, in certain circumstances, can temporarily override the autopilot. Steve will discuss and demonstrate the display at Loyola's second Advanced Technology Forum, sponsored by the Computer Science Department. He will focus on human-computer interaction and software engineering aspects of the display. You will have an opportunity to experience his flight simulator directly. There will be a discussion period, and refreshments will be served. For more information, please send e-mail to inquiry@cs.loyola.edu. Directions to the Timonium Graduate Center |
