Fall 2011: Featured Courses This Fall, there's a course for you, whether you're in a Master's Degree program or simply want to expand your educational horizons.
Dr. James Reeder once again offers his special topics course in the C# programming language. Microsoft's flagship language, C# is a Java-like language with extensions such as Delegates and Properties and tight integration with the .NET run-time environment. The course, CS 750.51, is offered at the Timonium Graduate Center on Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:40 pm. Two networking-related courses will be offered, Network Security at Timonium (CS 764) and Wide Area Networks at Columbia (CS 734). Network Security focuses on practical applications such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and virus prevention, as well as the basics of crytography and the operation of protocols such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL). This course is a must for those who must implement and maintain network security at a technical level. If you want to jumpstart your programming ability, the initial courses in the preparatory sequence will be offered. CS 630 will introduce you to programming with a computer science flavor, and CS 610 will introduce you to discrete mathematics. If you want to jumpstart your web ability, CS 710, Fundamentals of Web Design, will show you how to produce professional web pages and utilize technologies like Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Javascript. Course times, locations, and instructors are viewable at Loyola's Webadvisor site. Also check the Course Descriptions page.
