System Engineer Level IIIJob Description: Intermediate level System Engineer Job ID: EM201110 Required security clearance: TS Job Location: Pentagon, Arlington VA Pct. Travel : Rare Relocation : No Hours Worked: Full-Time Responsibilities From here on systems are referred to as OS and Hardware: Linux, Solaris 10, NeApp, Sun, HP Poliant, and Dell. Operate and maintain all production, test, and development systems. Perform system administration activities to include account management, monitoring and management of system resources (CPU, memory, disk, etc), monitoring and auditing system logs, backup and recovery, continuity of operations, security, and managing operating systems. Test and install operating system, COTS, and GOTS upgrades and patches and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs) Maintain server operating systems, COTS, and GOTS software at the required versions. Submit and obtain approval for all IT related configuration change proposals with the Change Advisory Board (CAB) or personnel identified by the Alternate team lead. Perform all non-emergency disruptive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades (i.e., network operating system upgrades, server refresh, etc.) during non-business hours or as coordinated with the team lead. Provide Tier II Service Support. Assist operating and maintaining all Enterprise Management functions and perform EM activities. Integrate, operate, and maintain COTS and GOTS system management tools to improve the overall operation and maintenance of systems. Develop, document and implement customized software programs and procedures to aid in the performance of enterprise management tasks. Provide weekly status reports Perform mentoring & training of team members, staff, and end-users.
Requirements Possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. In addition to education requirements, a minimum of two (2) years related experience. Experience in administering and troubleshooting Unix/Linux operating systems. Must have experience and be proficient in the installation, configuration and management of Unix/Linux servers. Understanding of IT systems best practices and the implementation of these practices, including the documentation and testing of systems. This position requires an active Top Secret clearance.
