Recently established in 2000 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates Cambridge Scholarships provide students from around the globe with the opportunity to study at the University of Cambridge. Scholarships may be awarded to students who have already been accepted by the University of Cambridge or who demonstrate academic abilities consistent with acceptance requirements. Gates Cambridge Scholarships may be given to students who will have obtained their bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Students are required to have been accepted by the University of Cambridge following independent application or must demonstrate academic indices congruent with the University's acceptance standards. Student's undergraduate GPA and GRE scores are considered during this process. Gates Cambridge Scholarships provide full financial compensation of tuition expenses and related fees. Additionally, Gates Cambridge scholars are provided with a supportive allowance and limited funding of travel expenses. Application procedures vary according to each student's country of origin and/or their current educational status. Students from the United States applying for graduate scholarship are required to complete and return application forms, including one recommendation by October 15. All application materials may be found on the Gates Cambridge Web Site. Applications for the Gates Scholarship and Cambridge graduate admissions are due by October 15 to Cambridge.
