Hertz Graduate Fellowship

Overview:  The Fannie and John Hertz Foundation was established in 1957 and began awarding national graduate fellowships in 1963.  The foundation provides funding for students seeking doctoral degrees in the physical sciences at a number of prestigious institutions.

Eligibility:  Hertz Fellowships may be awarded to college seniors who desire to pursue a Ph.D. degree in an approved subject area or to those who are already in the process of such studies.  Eligible fields include physics, chemistry, engineering, modern biology/biotechnology, materials science, computer science, astrophysics, mathematics, and earth science.  All applicants must be U.S. citizens and are required to sign a moral commitment to provide their skills to the U.S. during times of need. 

Value:  Students awarded Hertz Fellowships are provided with funding for all relevant educational fees as well as a living expense stipend equaling $25,000 per educational year.  Students are required apply for scholarship renewel each year, which is contingent upon academic progress.  Hertz Fellowships may be extended for a maximum of 5 years and are applicable for use at approved institutions.

Application:  All applicants are required to submit online applications and recommendations.  All recommendations are submitted directly, via the internet, by each faculty/acquaintance.  Application and recommendation information may be found on the Hertz Foundation Web Site

Deadline:  National deadline for applications is October 27.
