Rhodes Scholarship

Overview:  Established in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest existing international fellowship.  This award was created to bring together students from around the globe for study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Each year, close to 30 American students are awarded this prestigious fellowship on the basis of a number of intellectual and personal indices such as scholastic attainments, truth, courage, and moral character.

Eligibility:  Rhodes Scholarships may be awarded to students who will have obtained their bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Students must desire to pursue a graduate degree in a field of study offered by the University of Oxford.  Students are considered for selection on a regional basis, in accordance with the location of their undergraduate studies or their current residency.

Value:  Rhodes Scholars are provided full academic funding plus a maintenance allowance for a period of two years.  Third year renewals are possible but are contingent upon Scholarship Committee review.

Application:  Applicants of Rhodes Scholarships must be endorsed by the faculty representative of their undergraduate institution.  In addition to a standard application form, applicants must submit relevant transcripts, letters of recommendation, lists of accomplishments, and a personal statement.  All application materials may be found on the Rhodes Scholarship Web Site.
