Sellinger School maintains AACSB accreditation in accounting programs

| By Nick Alexopulos

Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management has maintained its accreditation in accounting by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Less than two percent of business schools in the world are dually accredited in both business and accounting.  Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest-serving global accrediting body for schools offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

An AACSB International member institution offering undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in accounting may only apply for accounting accreditation if that institution holds AACSB business accreditation or is simultaneously applying for that accreditation. Similar to the business accreditation process, the accounting accreditation requires a rigorous self-evaluation and peer-review process. To maintain accreditation, an accounting program must enter a maintenance-of-accreditation process every five years.

As the premier accreditation body for institutions offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting, accreditation by AACSB is the mark of quality distinction most widely sought after by business schools.

Loyola, the only private institution in Maryland with AACSB accreditation, was recently ranked among the top 50 undergraduate business programs by BusinessWeek in 2011, and its Executive MBA programs were ranked No. 3 in the world by Financial Times for corporate social responsibility.
