At this time of year we are reminded of our gifts and opportunities to give thanks. We certainly are thankful that our campus remained safe from Hurricane Sandy’s fury, yet we recognize that some of our families were not so fortunate and are dealing with significant challenges due to the hurricane. For those who have family in the affected areas, I pray that you are able to receive the necessary support in this ever-changing and difficult environment. Loyola students are organizing a number of fundraising and service efforts to support the survivors of Hurricane Sandy and we are encouraged by their spirit and energy to work as men and women for and with others.
The election is over! Our students were active and engaged in many election initiatives throughout the season. The Loyola Votes campaign registered more than 1,000 new voters and student and faculty panels served to educate students on the issues. The SGA and other student leaders promoted civil dialog and our campus has emerged stronger and more unified as a result.
Loyola spirit continues to thrive with the success of our athletics teams including our MAAC Champion women’s soccer team.
Soon students will return home for Thanksgiving and it will be time for you parents to have another “talk.” Time to talk about managing stress, finishing strong, and taking advantage of the offerings in the Career Center! Did you know that there are walk-in hours for résumé critique, free GRE courses, and a number of workshops to get your student ready for interviewing for internships or jobs upon graduation? The Career Chatter newsletter is packed with information and important dates to get students ready for the next step in their career.
As always, the student development website has links to departments and services which you may find useful as you help your student navigate the college environment. Visit often and encourage students to let us know how they are doing.
Best wishes for a peaceful holiday season.
