Distinguished students recognized at annual Gratias celebration

Each fall during Family Weekend, the Gratias celebration offers an opportunity to recognize students who have particularly distinguished themselves in academic, service, and leadership roles. This year’s honors, which were presented on Saturday, Sept. 26, included:

National Residence Hall Honorary (Loyola chapter)—an organization which strives to recognize the top 1 percent of students living in university housing, as determined by a number of student development employees, the advisors of all of the University’s student organizations, and Loyola President Brian F. Linnane, S.J. The criteria for consideration include excellent leadership skills and a willingness to collaborate with and support other Loyola student leaders.

Cura Personalis Awardwhich recognizes and honors students nominated by faculty and administrators who embody the Ignatian ideal of care for the whole person through demonstrated service, leadership, and academic achievement.

Diversity Awardselected by ALANA Student Services, this award honors and recognizes students or student groups who, through their service to the Loyola University Maryland community, have helped to increase the understanding of the diverse and changing world in which we live. This year's recipient is the Interfaith Youth Corps.

Green & Grey Societya group of seniors chosen by their peers and the Loyola administration for their contributions to the University and their leadership abilities. The Society acts as a liaison between University President Brian F. Linnane, S.J., and the student body.

Diane Geppi-Aikens Service to Loyola Award—honors distinguished members of the senior class, nominated by faculty and administrators and ultimately selected by the student development staff, whose enthusiastic spirit and unwavering commitment have enhanced the quality of life for students, faculty, and/or staff at Loyola. Named for the late women’s lacrosse coach and alumna whose indomitable and generous spirit represented the University’s highest ideals, this award is the highest honor bestowed upon Loyola student leaders.
