Loyola welcomes Class of 2016
More than 12,600 prospective students applied to be part of the Class of 2016, a 5 percent increase from the previous mark set last year and a 16 percent increase over 2010. Members of the Class of 2016, with a mean unweighted cumulative class grade point average of 3.4, were selected through an admission process with a heavy emphasis on the level of rigor in their high school curricula and the grades earned in those classes. These exceptional students with diverse backgrounds include Loyola’s largest minority and multicultural enrollment ever, nearly 23 percent, with more than 10 percent of Hispanic/Latino descent. The Class of 2016 also represents 31 different states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and six foreign countries.
“Each year we welcome a new group of outstanding students that enriches our community with a unique, diverse set of backgrounds, interests, and experiences,” said Elena D. Hicks, Loyola’s dean of undergraduate admission. “The Class of 2016, made up of inspiring young men and women who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and leadership in social justice, will undoubtedly strengthen Loyola’s already strong foundation and play a After move-in on Friday morning, the Class of 2016 experienced an orientation weekend packed with events, including New Student Convocation; the second half of a women’s soccer game and the first half of a men’s soccer game at the Ridley Athletic Complex; a discussion of the common text The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, read by all first-year students; numerous information sessions; and games on the Quad.
