Dear Parents:
As we close out the year, we can reflect on all that our students have encountered: the new independence of first-year students recognizing they have learned to manage their time and have embraced new experiences challenging their minds, bodies, and spirits; the excitement of sophomores who are making their goals realities by planning to study abroad, start internships, and secure summer jobs; the confidence of juniors who have taken stock and know they are about to become the campus’s leaders. And of course, there are the intense emotions of our seniors, who are finishing up that last bit of coursework before they step out into the world as college-educated “men and women for others." They are making Senior Week plans, evaluating relationships, and finding ways to pass on their wisdom to the younger students. On a practical note: your Loyola students—seniors and upperclassmen—may not be able to take all of their belongings with them when they leave the residence halls. Each year, the Good Stuff Campaign provides an opportunity for all students to donate unwanted or unneeded items during move-out. For many years, people around Baltimore have benefited tremendously from the generosity of the campus community. Donation collection stations will be located around campus during the exam weeks and Senior Week, and Good Stuff Campaign vans and trucks will be parked near residence halls on graduation day to collect goods. Please encourage your student to consider donating items in good condition before throwing them away. For more information and a list of what can be donated, visit www.loyola.edu/goodstuff. So many parents come to campus to support their students at programs, call to advocate for their needs, find ways to engage in campus events, and give back to the University. My how the year has flown! This is our last parents’ newsletter of the 2011-12 year. We recently celebrated our first Homecoming with a week full of student events that ranged from the educational, artistic, and athletic, to the just-plain-fun! The students are now in the midst of final exams, and soon enough they’ll be headed home—whether to yours or a new city and new life across the country or around the world.
