REACT Online offers resources for students recovering from trauma

Convincing a college student who has experienced a traumatic event such as assault, robbery, loss, or a campus-wide tragedy to seek support is challenging at all colleges and universities. But this support is critical—it can help them cope with difficult circumstances, maintain balance in their life, and improve their chances of staying in school.

In response to this vital need, Loyola’s Counseling Center and office of technology services have partnered to create REACT (ReAdjustment after Crisis and Trauma) Online, an interactive program designed to help students respond positively and healthfully to a crisis or traumatic event.

“We invite parents to check out REACT Online so they can use it with their sons and daughters in times of crisis and difficulty,” said Jason Parcover, Ph.D., associate director of the Counseling Center. “The interactive program has video functions, educational components, opportunities for self-reflection, and amazing relaxation exercises. It addresses the many common reactions people have to traumatic events, and how these can differ from one person to another. Most importantly, it focuses on how best to cope with—or even prevent—the most distressing of such reactions.”
