This October, Loyola’s Women’s Center presented its second annual Red Flag Campaign Against Dating Violence. The campaign featured posters and red plastic flags designed to draw attention to the issues surrounding dating violence.
More than 400 handwritten flags were displayed on the Quad Oct. 23 -25, in the days following Health Relationships Week, a public awareness event sponsored by the Counseling Center. Loyola’s Red Flag Campaign is part of a national effort to raise awareness about how dating violence can begin, how to recognize it, and how bystanders can make a difference. The Counseling Center, Take Back the Night, Feminist Club, Men’s Club, and Beauty of Women Club joined together to enlist friends and classmates to help write and distribute the flags, which feature dangerous or “red flag” dating situations as well as responses bystanders can use to intervene and prevent violence.
