Loyola President Brian F. Linnane, S.J., was quoted in a June 26, 2009, Chronicle of Higher Education story, titled "For Catholic Colleges, an Important Goal: Don't Surprise the Bishop." The story discusses the importance of Catholic institutions of higher education to foster good relationships with their local bishop in order to avert crises or controversies, and to ensure principles of Catholic doctrine are faithfully observed. Fr. Linnane is quoted as saying that he informs the local archbishop on the rare occasions when the campus plans to host speakers or events that could generate complaints.
