Loyola to Host First Leadership Week March 25 - 29

Loyola College in Maryland will host Leadership Week, a series of events designed to highlight the leadership accomplishments of Loyola students and encourage students to develop their own leadership skills, March 25 – 28. This first-ever celebration is sponsored by the College’s Office of Leadership and New Student Programs.

The week kicks off on Tuesday, March 25 with Student Leader Appreciation Day. Student leaders in every organization play integral roles in the successes of countless college programs around the campus, and Leadership Week organizers have asked each department to develop its own way of recognizing its student leaders.

Leadership and New Student Programs will hold an open house at the Office’s Leadership Resource Center (LRC) on Wednesday, March 26. The LRC offers an extensive array of books and DVDs on leadership, diversity, motivation, team building and personal development. Open to all members of the College Community, the LRC is geared specifically to students interested in developing their own leadership skills and enhancing the clubs and organizations to which they belong.

Throughout the Week, posters inspired by the leadership of Michael J. Fox, chosen because he has served as an example for how leadership can be nurtured and developed, will be displayed throughout the campus and in the residence halls. The depiction of Mr. Fox was created by Ayla Badell, Class of 2011.  The posters promote the idea that leadership is not just a position, but a quality that is learned and developed.

The week concludes with the Emerging Women Leaders Workshop on Saturday, March 29. This day-long program matches 20 female students from each class year with a number of faculty, staff and administrators for an intense exploration of the unique talents women bring to leadership. All participating students have been nominated by College faculty, staff and administrators.
