Class of 2012 Likely to be Largest in College History

Loyola College has received commitments from 1,124 students for its undergraduate Class of 2012, a group drawn from an applicant pool of more than 7,500. The number of students submitting enrollment deposits is a record for Loyola, which did not need to offer admission to any students on its waitlist to secure the incoming class for the second consecutive year.

While some of these students will likely choose to enroll elsewhere before classes begin in the fall, Elena Hicks, director of Undergraduate Admission, is confident the College will reach its admission goals this year.

“Loyola has had another strong admission cycle in relation to the quality of our applicants and their interest in making Loyola their home for four years,” says Hicks. “The Class of 2011 had 983 members start this past fall, and our goal is to enroll 1,000 in the Class of 2012. The fact that we admitted nearly the same number of students this year as last, yet we had more than 100 additional students accept our offer of admission, reflects positively about the quality of the Jesuit education offered at Loyola and its appeal to a growing number of students.”

While large in numbers, the class, which hails from 32 states and five countries, is also distinguished by the accomplishments of its members. Nearly 32 percent rank in the top 10 percent of their high school classes and the mean unweighted grade point average is 3.47. The SAT scores of the mid-50 percent of the class ranged from 1120 to 1270. Sixty percent of the students are women and thirteen percent are students of color.

While the Office of Undergraduate Admission was able to provide preliminary enrollment data, final enrollment figures will be available at the end of September.
