Loyola Mourns NBC's Tim Russert, Honorary Doctorate Recipient

Tim Russert, host of NBC's Meet the Press, died Friday, June 13 following a heart attack. He was 58.

Russert received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, honoris causa, from Loyola in 1997, the year he delivered the Commencement Address.

"Jesuit-educated, Tim Russert brings unyielding professionalism and a rigorous code of ethics to his work, seeking always to move beyond the sound bites to what is truly meaningful in an increasingly complex world," read the citation presented to Russert as he received his Loyola degree.

Russert is survived by his wife, writer Maureen Orth, and his son Luke, who recently celebrated his graduation from fellow Jesuit university Boston College.
