Loyola to host colloquium focused on communication

Loyola College in Maryland will host a colloquium titled “In Praise of Speaking, Reading, Writing, Teaching, Discussing: A Gathering in Honor of Adriaan Peperzak,” May 2-3, at Loyola’s North Charles Street campus.

The Arthur Schmitt Chair of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, Peperzak’s work is centered on the meeting of philosophy and faith. The theme of the colloquium centers on his thoughts concerning the relationship between reading, writing, speaking and teaching, and the role of conversation in coming to understand.

Sessions surrounding the colloquium theme will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in College Center Conference Room 113. Peperzak will deliver a talk titled “Teaching as Learning” at 6 p.m. in Cohn Hall 33.

Additional sessions on the theme will take place on Sunday, May 3, from 9:30 a.m. – noon in College Center Conference Room 113.

Participants and speakers include Colin Anderson, Hiram College; Aron Reppman, Trinity College; Corinne Painter, Washtenaw Community College; Ryan Madison, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary; Kristi Sweet, Texas A&M University; Greg Clark, North Park University; Norman Wirzba, Duke Divinity School; Marjolein Oele, University of San Francisco; Catriona Hanley, Loyola College in Maryland; and Brent Adkins, Roanoke College.

All sessions are free and open to the public.
