Student Orientation to Service (S.O.S.) is a unique service and educational opportunity in which a small group of incoming students, student leaders, and two administrators explore the issues, concerns, and realities of people who are materially poor and/or homeless in Baltimore City. The experience includes service and social activities; reflections and discussions on the service experience; interaction with Loyola students and staff who are committed to community service and the pursuit of social justice; input from experienced service providers who know the issues and the people; and selected videos and readings. The group stays in a safe, simple place in the heart of Baltimore City. S.O.S. is for you if you want to begin or to continue your involvement in service. You’ll have the opportunity to meet other members of your class who share your interest and get a head start on learning about the many wonderful service opportunities available to you in Baltimore as a Loyola student. Come along on S.O.S. and begin to live the Jesuit motto “men and women for and with others”. Date: Sunday, August 23 - Wednesday, August 26 Cost: $80 (Scholarships available if financial need is present.) Maximum Number of Participants: 13 people Application Process: Please write your answers to the following questions to help us select this year’s S.O.S. group. 1. What motivates you to apply for this program? 2. Describe how community service is a part of your life.
You will be able to upload your responses in the spaces allotted on the registration form. Since this is a selective application process, we ask that you do not send a check with your registration. Shortly after the registration deadline, July 17, all S.O.S. applicants will be notified whether they have been accepted into the program, and you can send your payment at that time. If you have any concerns about our time line not giving you enough time to make your travel plans, please do not hesitate to contact us. Questions?
