Office of Leadership and New Student Programs

College Starts Here!

The Summer Orientation programs are important steps to becoming a new student at Loyola.  Through five separate programs in late June and early July, the campus community will welcome you as incoming first-year students.  A large number of current students, faculty and administrators will help the incoming students to better understand their academic options and requirements, their living environment in the residence halls, chances for involvement in clubs and organizations, and much more.  Some of the highlights include:

  • Registering for Classes – students will have a chance to meet with an advisor and discuss the school's Core Curriculum, pathways for different majors, personal interests, and then to schedule their fall courses.
  • Learning more about the residential community and filling out housing preference forms.
  • Meeting other members of the Loyola Class of 2012, and interacting with them in a variety of intellectual and social settings.
  • Learning more about Loyola from the student orientation staff, the Evergreens, who serve as the peer guides to all that Loyola has to offer.

Accommodations

All students are required to stay on campus during the summer orientation program. In recent years, most of the parents and family members attending with them have stayed on campus as well.  However, should family members choose to stay off campus, a list of hotels in the area is available here.

All students and those parents who choose to stay on campus will be housed in air-conditioned residence halls.  Students will be placed into rooms with other members of the Class of 2012, while parents and other family members will be staying nearby in another building.  More information on housing for orientation may be found in our Frequently Asked Questions
