Telephones

Obtain a phone extension. 
Phone extensions are assigned by the Communication Services Dept.  Please contact the Office of Technology Support at x5555 to submit a request.

How to access and set up your PhoneMail
Access PhoneMail

  • Dial your PhoneMail direct access number, such as 2110 (staff and faculty) and 6220 (students).
  • Key in your PhoneMail box number, followed by #.
  • PhoneMail will then ask for your password the default password is 1 1 1 (three ones).

To change your password

  • The first time you access PhoneMail, enter your default password and press #.
  • PhoneMail will prompt you to create a personal password (7 - 24 digits).

To change existing password

  • Access PhoneMail, then press:
  • 9 for mail box options
  • 3 to change your password

Record Your Name

  • Access PhoneMail, then press:
  • 8 for answering options
  • 4 to keep your recorded name or press
  • 1 to record or rerecord your name (first and last ONLY!)
  • 4 to keep your existing recorded name

Personal Greetings

  • Access PhoneMail, then press:
  • 8 for answering options
  • 1 for automated greeting or 1 to record a personal greeting
    • 73 to replay the greeting you just recorded or
    • 61 to delete and record the greeting
    • # when you complete the recording

Listen to your Messages

  • Access PhoneMail, then press 3.
  • To navigate through messages, press:
    • * 2 to skip forward to the next header (message introduction)
    • * 6 to delete the message immediately
    • * 72 to skip back to the previous header
    • * 73 to replay the entire message
    • * 78 to replay the previous eight seconds of the message
    • * 98 to move ahead eight seconds into the message
  • While listening to a header, press:
    • 2 to skip from one header to the next
    • 3 to skip to the header in progress and listen to the message
    • 72 to skip to the previous header
    • * 91 to skip through the message queues
  • What to do after you listen, press:
    • 6 to delete it
    • 4 to save it
    • 73 to replay it
  • After you delete or save a message, you can press:
    • 1 to record & send an answer to the message sender or
    • 70 to call the person who sent you the message or
    • 9 to forward the message to another extension or
    • # to continue to the next message

Make a conference call. 
York Rd., Timonium, Coumbia and Library

  • The Conference feature allows you to have up to eight (8) parties, including yourself, in a conversation.
  • Call your first party and press the Transfer button.  This places the party on consultation hold.  Inform the party that he/she will be part of a conference call.
  • Dial your next extension, or 9 + the outside number. 
  • If one of the parties is overseas, dial 9 + 011 + the country code, the city code and the phone number.
  • If the party answers, press Conf or Transfer to join all parties.  To reconnect to a conference if a party refuses, doesn’t answer, or is busy, press the Connect key.

Evergreen Campus

  • Call the first person and press the Flash button.
  • Dial the next extension, or enter 9, followed by the outside number.
  • If one of the parties is overseas, dial 9 + 011 + the country code, the city code and the phone number
  • Inform the party that he/she will be part of a conference call.
  • Press the conference button, or press Flash* (star) 4 to connect all parties.
  • To reconnect to the conference if a called party refuses the conference, is busy, or does not answer, press the Connect button.

Make an off campus call. 

  • Dial 9 + area code + phone number.
  • If you’re calling long distance:  Dial 9 + 1 + area code + phone number. 
  • For quick access to area codes, you can visit:  www.allareacodes.com

Make an international call. 
Dial 9 + 011 + the country code + the city code + the phone number.  For your convenience, here is a link to a very effective web site to assist you with your overseas calls:  www.countrycallingcodes.com.  Not all phones have access to this feature.

What smartphones are supported at Loyola?
Smartphone is a term used for a mobile phone that offers advanced capabilities beyond a typical mobile phone, often with PC-like functionality for keeping schedule calendars and address book information handy. Here at Loyola University, we fully support Loyola owned smartphones and offer limited support and advice with personally purchased Smartphones to include: Blackberry, Treo, Apple IPhone.

Synchronizing your  phone to access your Loyola E-Mail 
Contact OTS at 5555 or ots@loyola.edu.  They will open a ticket and handle the request based on the specific device.
