Loyola is currently in the process of upgrading the college Cable Television network to support the growing technology trends in digital and high definition programming. In order to benefit from these upgrades, the campus communities will need to follow certain guidelines to receive the best quality signals. Hardware required:
An LCD or Plasma TV capable of tuning digital and 8-VSB off-air signals. In most cases, units purchased in the last 3 years are capable of meeting these requirements. How to re-program your TV to receive these channels:
All you need to do is re-program your TV channels. Make sure that in the menu system of your TV (each is different depending on the manufacturer), you select BOTH analog and digital formats. If your TV only allows you to choose analog, then it most likely will not support these digital and HD channels. Set your TV to auto-program and search for the new channels. This could take up to 20-30 minutes to complete due to the nature of the technology. Digital & High-Definition Channel Lineup: The new digital and HD channels will appear as subsets to traditional TV channels. For example, ABC in analog, on Loyola's channel lineup is traditionally channel #44; however, the digital channel is broadcast on channel #83.4, and HD on channel #83.3. For a full channel lineup of analog, digital, and HD programming, please visit http://www.loyola.edu/stc/tv. What's the difference between digital and HD? Both "digital TV" and "HD TV" are digital signals; however, HD TV offers a higher resolution (sharper picture) than standard digital. Both are better quality than traditional analog television still being offered through Loyola's channel lineup. Not all channels are yet digital or HD, but ongoing upgrades are occurring.
