She is a licensed psychologist in Maryland who specializes in psychological and spiritual adjustment following adverse health events, with particular emphasis on treatment of anxiety, mood, and spiritual problems among patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). She has co-authored several papers on religion/ spirituality and health, as well as depression and anxiety, in a variety of medical patient populations. Dr. Magyar-Russell is the principal investigator of an ongoing study funded by the American Heart Association examining the prevalence and functional impact of anxiety disorders among cardiac patients who have received an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). She maintains active research interests in the areas of religious and spiritual coping, spiritual struggle, and resilience (in particular among CVD and cancer patients), and integrates religion and spirituality into her practice of psychotherapy. |
