Loyola University Maryland 410.617.7631 Education Biography Dr. Oakes has significant clinical experience in the treatment of substance and behavioral addictions; has taught and consulted with counseling and community professionals on cultural diversity and spirituality; and has provided pastoral and spiritual care to spiritual retreat programs. She conducts counseling workshops and presentations in spirituality, cultural diversity and addictions recovery. Her research interests and current scholarship center on spirituality in addictions treatment, along with multiculturalism and social advocacy in counseling. She has recently published in Counseling and Values, Research in the Social Scientific Study of Religion, Journal of Spirituality in Counseling, and Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly, and contributed on the topic of cultural diversity and pastoral care-giving to the book, Building Bridges Over Troubled Waters. Dr. Oakes is former Chair of the Ethics Committee for the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists and is a State-licensed clinical counseling practitioner as well as a national certified counselor. Additionally, she is a member of the American Counseling Association; the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development; the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling; and the International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors. |
