Dr. Stewart-Sicking is a counselor educator and Episcopal priest whose research interests include personal transformation through spiritual exercises, the emotional health and vocational satisfaction of clergy, and counseling across faith traditions. From 2003-2006 he was the Project Associate for the Project on Congregations of Intentional Practice at Virginia Theological Seminary, a national research study examining how mainline Protestant congregations and their members are finding renewed vitality through creatively embracing traditional Christian practices. The data which he helped collect and analyze led to the critically acclaimed books Christianity for the Rest of Us: How the Neighborhood Church is Transforming the Faith and The Practicing Congregation (by Diana Butler Bass), and From Nomads to Pilgrims: Stories from Practicing Congregations, which he co-edited. He has also published articles in the areas of counselor education and supervision, counseling theory, and Christian spirituality. In addition to his work as a researcher and priest, Dr. Stewart-Sicking has also worked as a counselor in hospital, forensic, outpatient, and congregational settings.
