The Center for the Study of Spirituality, Trauma, Loss and Violence

The effects of trauma, loss and violence can be devastating to the human spirit.  Assumptive realities are often shaken or destroyed, and individuals' spiritual and religious beliefs are threatened if not decimated.  In fact, traumatic events are often the most challenging disruption to an individual's equilibrium that he or she is ever likely to face.  For these reasons, it is important to examine and develop a deeper understanding of the role of spirituality and religion in facilitating recovery.  By creating a community of scholars, clinicians, researchers, and students who possess expertise in the integration of spirituality and religion with the social sciences, the Center for the Study of Spirituality, Trauma, Loss and Violence advances a holistic approach to healing.

By integrating spiritual and religious interventions with evidence-based psychological and social treatments, the Center for the Study of Spirituality, Trauma, Loss and Violence strives to answer the question:  How do religion and spirituality facilitate healing from trauma, loss and violence?
