Scholarly Interests:
Scholarly interests include factors affecting psychotherapy duration and outcome, ethics and professional issues (particularly managed care and supervision), crisis intervention, and instrument development. Current ongoing research projects include evaluation of levels of well-being, psychological symptoms, and life functioning for various populations.
Instruments Developed: Kopta, S. M., & Lowry, J. L. Psychotherapy Outcome Assessment and Monitoring System (POAMS®; 1997, copyright) and Behavioral Health Measure-20 (2000, copyright). Comprehensive assessment instruments, based on the Phase Model of Psychotherapy, designed to track patient progress in treatment. Factors assessed include readiness for treatment, well-being, psychological symptoms, life functioning, therapeutic bond, and treatment satisfaction. Normative data are available for college students, college counseling clients, adult outpatients, community-adults, and trauma survivors. Representative Publications:
