Community Safety Alerts Two construction related Safety alerts: 1. Ennis Parallel, the road behind College Center, will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic on Wednesday, March 21st from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be a crane in place off-loading steel for the College Center pool area renovation. Foot traffic should go on the quad side to bypass the construction area. Your cooperation, bypassing this area will greatly assist the construction process and will keep us all safer. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Project Management and Facilities Maintenance Department at 410-617-2200. 2. Construction at the new resident hall and Library sites has caused some students to create a new path way over Stoney Creek. This is not the preferred path to get to the College of Notre Dame, Charles Street, or to the FAC. This path is not as safe as going up to Ennis Parallel to get to Charles Street. It is a little longer journey, however is much safer. When the Library is open, students can cut though the Library to get over the creek. When the Library is closed, Ennis Parallel is the recommended route. If someone would slip, trip or fall on this "new" route they may not be seen and medical treatment could be delayed. Thank you for your support and as spring begins please keep aware of what is happening around you. Potential new hazzards await in or around these construction areas. Students, Staff and Faculty should increase there awareness in these areas. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Safety at 410-617-5010 Loyola Emergency Notification System SUBJECT: New emergency notification system The College has recently augmented the Loyola Emergency Notification System (LENS) with a text messaging service that will instantly and simultaneously distribute brief messages in situations posing imminent physical threats to the College Community. By using Short Messaging System (SMS) technology, the system, e2Campus, can convey messages to registered mobile phones, Blackberries, wireless PDAs, smart phones and satellite phones even in times when traditional phone and e-mail networks are congested due to increased volume. Loyola’s Office of Public Safety will use the e2campus system to provide notification of situations posing imminent, physical threats to the College Community. This new mass notification system complements the existing Loyola Emergency Notification System (LENS), which includes outside sirens, PM Evergreen e-mails, phone mail announcements, and indoor fire alarm speakers. The e2campus mass notification system will only be used in circumstances posing grave physical danger, and use of the system will be followed by announcements in all of the College’s existing emergency notification channels. In order to benefit from this new service, you must register your cell phone with e2campus via Blackboard. Most cell phones are already SMS-enabled; those that are not may still receive the messages, but may incur a small fee. To register: 1) Make sure you have your cell phone on hand. 2) Go to Loyola’s Blackboard page at http://my.loyola.edu 3) Log in using your Loyola username and password. 4) In the box or module labeled e2campus Mass Notification registration, fill in the required information. We recommend using your Loyola username to register. 5) Click "Create an Account.”" 6) You should receive an SMS test message on your phone that will provide you with a four-digit number to use in the next e2campus window. Fill in the number, then click "Validate Mobile Phone." 7) A new page should indicate that you have successfully registered. 8) Click "Log in," then use the username and password you just created. 9) Click on the "Services" tab to add your e-mail address and/or other notification options. Link to e2campus www.e2campus.com/my/loyola/ to update or delete your account. Monthly tests of the system will be conducted, and will be announced in advance via NewsHound and PM Evergreen. If you have any trouble with the registration process, or learn that you are not receiving the monthly test messages, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 5555. |
