Child Use Policy

The Department of Recreational Sports is dedicated to providing quality recreational experiences for all Fitness and Aquatic Center (FAC) members and their guests.  To promote the safety and satisfaction of all who use the FAC, the Department of Recreational Sports developed this Child Use Policy.

General
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult member who is at least 18 years of age in order to utilize the FAC. Children under the age of 12 must be directly supervised by an adult member at all times and in all areas of the FAC. Children under the age of 18 are not permitted to bring guests into the FAC. Direct supervision defined: adult member with minor at all times, engaged in activity with him/her.

Aquatic Center (pool, hot tub, sauna areas)

Children ages 16-18 may use the Aquatic Center without an adult member (non-swimmer exception below*).

Children ages 12-15 must complete a swim test to enter the Aquatic Center (pool area) without an adult.  Arrangements for a swim test must be made through the Assistant Director or the Graduate Assistant for Aquatics.  When the child has successfully passed the swim test, he/she must check-in upon each visit thereafter with the guard on duty, in order to swim alone until 16 years of age.

Children ages 11 and under must be directly supervised by an adult member at all times when in the Aquatic Center.

Children under the age of 7 are not allowed to use the hot tub or sauna at any time (7-11 years of age must have an adult member on deck supervising the minor).

FAC staff, at their discretion, may impose additional restrictions on the use of aquatic facilities by individual members.

*Non-Swimmers: Individuals who cannot swim the length of the swimming pool unassisted. He/she must be within arms reach of an adult member at all times in the Aquatic Center.

Climbing Wall
Children 6 and under are not permitted to use the Climbing Wall. Children between the ages of 7 and 15 are permitted to participate in the “Kid’s Climb” program the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 10am-12pm. Advance registration is required through the Outdoor Adventure Center.

Children 16 and older may qualify for a “Junior Climbing” membership upon the successful completion of the rock-climbing clinic offered at the FAC. Jr. Climbers are permitted to use the Wall during all of the Wall operating hours.

For Climbing Wall supervision requirements, the general section shown above applies.

Family Changing Room

It is highly recommended that members with children under the age of 12 utilize the FAC Family Changing Room located adjacent to the pool.  FAC staff will provide access upon member requests. If the Family Changing Room is unavailable, families are encouraged to use the restrooms in the front lower level lobby.

Fitness Center (all strength and cardio machines in FAC)

Children who are 16 years of age or older may use the strength and cardio equipment in the Fitness Center and those cardio machines located on the track.  Children under the age of 16 may not enter the Fitness Center or use the equipment located there or the equipment on the track, at any time, with or without adult supervision.

Outdoor Adventure Experience
