Instructional Programs

Want to try something new? Check out our Instructional Programs! Experienced instructors are on hand to teach you a wide range of sport and activity skills. Registration for all classes may be completed at the FAC during Member Services Hours. Each class has numbers for Maximum and Minimum Participation. The Minimum Participant number describes how many registrants are needed to run the class. (If that number is not reached a full refund will be issued to the registrants.) The Maximum Participant numbers describes the maximum registrants that a class can accommodate. 

Registration for all classes must be made through Member Services.

Spring 2008 Programs

Advanced Ballroom/Latin Dance Technique & Groupings

Take your dancing skills to the next level!  This class will stress the importance of group step movements and choreographed patterns that will better allow the dancer to perform for shows, competitions, or just hard core dance workouts!  Arm movements and hand configurations, core strength training, and balance & poise will be focused upon and emphasized by the instructor.  Constant repetition, memorization and practice of the material from week to week will help participants reach the highest level of performance.  Partners are not necessary.  Pre-requisite of previous Ballroom & Latin dance classes are necessary to register. Ballroom, Social & Latin Dance

This is an excellent class to get an overview of all the dances you will ever need!  Learn how to dance to the current and classic songs you will hear ay any event; clubs, weddings, special affairs…you name it!  Dancers will learn all the basic steps plus Cuban motion (hips movement), patterns, and a sense of accomplishment to dance at any function.  Becoming a good Lead or Follow is tantamount to good social dancing!  The foxtrot, waltz, tango, rumba, cha cha, mambo/salsa, meringue, samba and swing will all be emphasized.  Beginners, continuing students, couples and singles are all welcome.

Latin Fusion & Body Moves to Impress

Learn how to isolate your body and make the most of your Latin dancing!  This class will get you in shape and keep you there!  Consistent fluid body control through the hips and torso shall be emphasized.  Cuban motion (hip movement), arms, footwork, and core strength training will be stressed to attain better body control and balance.  The strong Latin rhythms of Rumba, Samba, Salsa/Mambo, Cha Cha, Meringue and Hustle and Freestyle will keep your energy high and body burning.  Be ready to work and have a great time!  Couples and singles are welcome.  Partners are not necessary.

Basic Israeli Self Defense (Formerly Krav Maga)

Learn the self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces which has been taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies and thousands of civilians around the world. A unique combination of high intensity training and practical self defense, this is like no other self defense system in the world! For the first time self-defense, fitness, and fight training are combined to create a truly unique program that fits the needs of everyone. Whether your goal is to get in shape, learn how to defend yourself, or a combination of the two, this program is for you!

Minimum Participants: 10-12

Maximum Participants: 25

Advanced Israeli Self Defense

Kick it up a notch! This class will build on the basic self defense skills learned in the Basic Israeli Self Defense class as well as incorporate new fitness dynamics of interval training and stress scenario training. Various advanced combatives will be incorporated into high-level defenses while stressing a higher focus on situational awareness. Pre-requisite of previous Israeli Self Defense or Krav Maga classes are necessary to register. Contact Ryan Hagen for more details.

Capoeira

Learn this Afro-Brazilian art form that combines dance, martial arts, and acrobatics. More than a martial art, more than a dance, Capoeira is also a social event filled with tradition and history. The foundation of Capoeira is based on continuous rhythmic movements that increase strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, and coordination while encouraging self expression! Participants must wear light-comfortable workout clothes i.e. sweat pants (no-shorts) and T-shirts. 

Minimum Participants: 8-10

Maximum Participants: 15

Healthy Spine Screenings

Oh, my aching back! Stop by the FAC and consult with a professional doctor of Chiropractic regarding your overall aches and pains, which may relate to issues with your spinal health and alignment. This “FREE” 5 minute evaluation will inform you about your spinal health and whether or not you should be concerned. You will also learn about how to improve your spinal health and what you may be doing in your everyday life that can negatively impact your spine.
