The Center for Social and Community Research
will provide grants to faculty to cover the expenses of the services
provided. Applications will be submitted to the Director, who
will estimate the amount of the award required to complete the
requested work. The award has no redeemable cash value; the award
will be used to subsidize the work performed by the Center. Applications
will be reviewed by sending them to a faculty committee for ranking.
The overall ranking of the committee will establish the final
funding priority, but the availability of grants will be determined
by the Director, in consultation with the Dean and the faculty
committee. Priority will be given to faculty who have no funding
for their current work. Projects which have funding for data entry
are not eligible for duplicate support (although faculty may contract
with the Center for these services). Merit of the proposed research
(i.e. potential for publication or research grant development)
will be a key factor in evaluation of funding priority, especially
as related to the amount of resources required.
The Dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences also has funds available for faulty training
in quantitative research trough Loyola's membership in the Inter-University
Consortium for Political and Social Research. ICPSR conducts an
extensive training program in statistical
methods during the summer at the University of Michigan. Other
off-campus training opportunities can also be supported.
